A Blum's- Vogue gown is a very rare piece of fashion history!! This museum-level couture gown was imported by the legendary Blum’s-Vogue located on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Blum's-Vogue offered a variety of designer lines such as Chanel, Balenciaga, Dior, Galanos, Oscar de la Renta, Sarmi, and Yves Saint Laurent. While we don’t know who the original designer is, we do know that is exquisitely constructed and shaped with just buttons, snaps and the pleating and is a one of a kind --and very rare--couture gown.

This masterwork has a lavish large collar that drapes over the upper arms. The gown is fitted at the waist flowing into a full on ballgown/hostess gown look. The back has 6 fabric covered buttons that end at the waist where heavy pleating provides the volume to the skirt. Snaps inside from the waist down to mid-thigh create the full shape of the gown. The pattern is reminiscent of a Monet painting and is very vibrant in colors of rich pink, magenta, greens and marine blue. This exquisite gown can actually be worn font-to-back and vice versa but the model wears it in the intended way.

Per LA Times: "...Blum’s Vogue in Chicago...was the first store to import French couture to America in the 1920s." Other sources state "Blum emphasized the importance of giving his customers a personalized shopping experience—his stores were advertised as operating like a couturier instead of a normal department store, allowing women access to exclusive and custom designs tailored to their individual needs."

Condition: Very good. A slight "splotch" of a stain on the bodice and small stain in lining that bleeds through to outer (see photos). ABSOLUTELY NOT NOTICEABLE in the riot of color in the print. Missing original belt. Replace belt shown and provided.
Fabric: Unmarked. Outer is a lush silk. Lining: Likely synthetic.
